Are you a serious mountain lover and wish to see cultures that have been little influenced by the West? Does this resonate with you? Yes, then let Sonam Adventure take you on its incredible Everest Base Camp trek, a journey into the fascinating Khumbu Valley that will bring you a sense of harmony and blissful contentment.
On our Everest Base Camp trek, you will walk along one of the most gorgeous Himalayan trails that runs through Sagarmatha National Park. On every dozen km, you will come across wonderful majestic Himalayas, most of them over 8000 m.
But the most significant is of course the Everest, the base of which is the main aim of our Everest Base Camp trek 14 days trip. At 5364 m, this iconic campsite has seen many records made and broken, and many tragic incidents too.
Apart from the Everest Base Camp, our expedition will also proceed you to the peak of the summit of Kala Patthar, 5644 m.
Its plateau is the only mountain site on the planet that will give you the closest glance of Everest (8848 m) along with Lhotse (8516 m), Baruntse (7162 m), Thamserku (6608 m), Pumori (7161 m), Changtse (7543 m), Ama Dablam (6812 m), Makalu (8485 m), Island (6165 m), Khumbutse (6639 m), Taboche (6495 m), Lingtren (6749 m), Cholatse (6440 m), Nuptse (7861 m), and Lobuche (6119 m).
Another main visit on our Everest base camp trek will occur to the Everest View Hotel, 3880 m, recorded as the tallest mountain hotel on the planet. You will also have non-obligatory climb to the Nangkartshang Hill in Dingboche.
Our journey will be further enriched by the cheerful and welcoming Sherpas. You will find comfortable sleeping and eating arrangements in their well-organized lodges. Along the way, you will also pass magnificent Buddhist stupas and temples of Tengboche and Pangboche.
Our Everest Base Camp trek is not a climbing or a mountaineering adventure so it is not necessary for you to be an expert mountain hiker. However, you must have perfect physical shape to tolerate its challenging altitude.
So let’s journey together on the Everest Base Camp trek where comfort and trekking go hand in hand.
The best that Nepal offers for the Everest base camp trek occurs between March- May when there are spring colors in the Khumbu Valley and between September- November when there is autumn fierce in Everest.
The Everest base camp trek route becomes more accessible with little snow fluttering during spring and none in autumn. Serious hikers can even choose to go in December, January, and February if they are comfortable with thick snow trails and cold weather.
The Everest Base Camp trek 14 days trip is a class II medium difficulty hike that suits every individual in good physical shape. You will be on your feet walking the 130 km trail but overall hike can be considered a light trek with average walking hours limited to 7 hours a day.
There will be relentless ascents and descents but you can do the Everest base camp trek without having much experience with mountain sports or hiking.
The difference in altitude increase will be a bit more, which requires more of your physical condition. The altitude sickness may also contact you; however, our acclimatization process is extremely careful.
In summary, we can say that someone who is healthy and in decent physical shape can complete this trail without any substantial challenges.
A trekker’s susceptibility to altitude sickness varies but no doubt once you are at 3000 m or above, your body will struggle to keep up with the exertion of walking in high altitude that lacks oxygen.
On the Everest Base Camp Trek, therefore, once you are at Namche, you may complain of feeling a general malaise, headache, nausea and vomiting, dizziness, and irritability.
In such a case, you should stop the excursion and promptly descend to the lower area. To help all our trekkers with the altitude sickness, we have therefore two acclimatization treks planned at Namche and Dingboche.
In addition to these acclimatizations, you can also prevent this sickness by taking a drug, acetazolamide (Diamox), a mild diuretic which you should take during the ascent and in the first days of staying at altitude but with doctor’s advice.
Your Everest base camp trek can be better experienced if you have adequate training with sports such as cycling, walking, skiing, running, and jogging minimum one month ahead of your trek.
These will allow your body to face the long hours of hiking during the Everest base camp trek without necessitating great effort from you. Remember, training becomes even more mandatory for those who carry out sedentary activity.
It will also be beneficial if you do some gymnastics sessions that will help you gain agility and flexibility along with strength in your legs and arms muscles.
And, do not forget to add the support of an adequate diet with more calories and vitamin intake.
In Kathmandu, you will stay in a medium three-star hotel in a twin-sharing room. On the Everest Base Camp trek, you will live for the night in mountain tea houses’ double rooms.
These tea houses on the trail have now transformed into quite elegant ones that offer single rooms, attached toilets, WiFi, and hot running water.
Additionally, there are premium hotels available in many of the lower villages along the Everest base camp trek, which you can opt for at an extra cost.
Likewise, during the Everest base camp trek, your meals are included with the exception of Kathmandu where only breakfast will be served. Your wishes for your breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be taken into account.
Remember, you have to provide your own drinks and water during the treks, you can buy these everywhere along the way.
Similarly, a private airport (local and international) transfer along with a Lukla transfer in flight will also be organized. Sonam Adventure will offer its private 4WD for Manthali transfers if needed.
For the Everest Base Camp trek itinerary and permit, it is necessary to buy the right kind of travel insurance for yourself. Remember, no Everest base camp trek package will include your personal insurance.
Sonam Adventure and its outstanding guide will look after your safety on the trek, but it is not the ordinary Himalaya we are talking about, it is the Everest.
And, this mountain can change its mood in no time. So if anything goes wrong, with your travel insurance, you can have free treatment in Kathmandu or at your home.
We will notify your insurance provider promptly should you fall into any incident. Please confirm with your insurance provider about your policy coverage altitude (helicopter rescue) which should be 5700 m minimum for the Everest base camp trek.
Please remember that TIMS cards are no longer necessary for the Everest Base Camp trek. Instead, a local permit system of Khumbu Municipality is in place which should be purchased in Lukla for 2000 NPR per person.
In addition, you also need to pay an entrance fee of 3000 NPR per person in Monjo or Kathmandu for the Sagarmatha National Park.
Sonam Adventure team or guide will take care of all the procedures and of course the cost.
It’s not mandatory because if you drink enough water and adhere to the acclimatization plan, you can complete the Everest Base Camp trek without any altitude issues.
Yes, WiFi is available almost everywhere on the route to the Everest Base Camp and in some places, it is also free such as in Lukla and Namche. You have to buy a separate WiFi card from either Everest Link or AirLink which are not that expensive as well.
The winter trekking to Everest Base Camp will be literally exceptional, but the cold and closed tea houses will be the biggest problem on this time. So equip yourself with snow spikes, a thick down jacket, a thick down sleeping bag, and down slippers for the comfort. As for the tea houses, not all will be closed and you will have enough space as well.
The Everest base camp trek will not that be cold in autumn and spring but it will be in winter. Often the temperature goes down below minus at night but during the day, the sun shines warmly warming the day up quickly.
Generally, all even those without the hiking experience can finish the Everest base camp trek successfully. The condition is that you must be generally fit, exercise regularly, and follow what our guide says on the actual trek.
You should buy our Everest Base Camp trek 14 days package for February when there will be only around 5% of the crowd as compared to what you will encounter in October or April.
Certainly, there are Gokyo Lake trek, Three Passes Trek, Everest Mountain biking, Everest panorama tour, Everest helicopter tour, Everest base camp trek with Helicopter return, and many others which are hidden inside the Sagarmatha National Park.
You can charge and power up any electric devices in the tea house you stay for a fee which generally costs you around 500 NPR.
Not at all as it is a mountain hiking expedition and not climbing. Except for walking poles which are also optional, no specific gear will be needed.
Certainly that too from different angles and positions.
It will be 3.5 as you will be challenged by the altitude, not by the daily hiking distance and technicality.
Yes, the Everest Base Camp trek along with numerous other remote mountain treks in Nepal has to be organized now through a registered travel agency like Sonam Adventure from 2023. Your organized trip can be group or private but you will be compulsorily followed by our expert guide.
